The ancient fortifications, ramparts, the imposing medina (a UNESCO world heritage from 2001), are unforgettable sights. The fish market and harbour, small fishing vessels which bring fresh fish and all the abundance of the Atlantic to the land are only some of the attractions. Walking through Essaouira labyrinthine alleyways and the narrow lanes of the medina, you can admire the picturesque white houses with blue doors and window frames. Many shops and cafes are an assault on the senses with delicious smells, while the market is a treasure trove for souvenirs. The return to Marrakesh is in the afternoon.
