1 day: Excursion to Setti Fatma and Oukaimeden
We leave in the morning from your riad or hotel in Marrakesh. The excursion takes us south, towards the mountains of the High Atlas range. From as far away as Marrakesh, we can already see the snow-topped mountains of the High Atlas, and the highest peak, Toubkal (4,160 m). We pass through the broad valley of Marrakesh, with its orchards and olive groves, and reach the mountains. Here, the scenery and vegetation change. Pine forests, walnut trees, fast-flowing streams, goats in the pastures and the mud brick houses of the Berbers dominate the landscape. Finally, we reach Setti Fatma, located in an enchanting natural setting on the riverside, from where we walk to the waterfalls.
After lunch, we resume our journey to Oukaimeden, the main skiing destination in Morocco. Mount Oukaimeden reaches an altitude of 3,200 metres. A chairlift – the highest in North Africa, leads to the peak of Jebel Oukaïmeden (3,273 m). The skiing season runs from December to April. During this time, skis and snowboards are available for hire, while during the remainder year there are beautiful walks and treks in the High Atlas Mountains.
We get back to Marrakesh towards evening.
